Re: Top 10 visionary films you have seen
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 2:38 PMDon't know if these are my "top 10" or even the most visionary I've ever seen. This is a list of films that I found quite moving and profound and may be deserving of more attention than they've gotten:

PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC - Carl Dreyer
SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD - Guy Maddin
VERA - Francisco Althie
THE WIFE - Tom Noonan

Here is my attempt. I tend to be impressed by expansive conceptual presentations, films which tap into human nature, but also present an extrapolation into the effects of individual action amplified as humanity. Ideally, a clean synthesis of visual and story + concept is key, one striking element of the following is a sense of scale they present.
My choices:
Zardoz
The Lathe of Heaven
2001
Planet of the Apes
Blade Runner
Once Upon a Time in the West
The Illustrated Man
Omega Man
1984
Before Sunset
Personally, the radically differing techniques of these films inspires me. I'm sure it may seem like an odd mix!
